Second entry for Day 57

Well here we are Wednesday night and her temp is still hovering around 99.5. Since I have just now been able to hear the heartbeats I think we have a few days. The pups inside are still moving around quite a bit. We will see what tomorrow brings. Robert my husband comes home tomorrow, he will be home for a few days and he will be able to help me out for the blessed event. Lately Wicca likes to sleep on her back with all four legs in the air and she looks like a beached whale...LOL! I will get pictures of her and upload them. Good Night for now

Wednesday, December 30, 2009: Day 57

Okay we made it through last night and we are on to Day 57! This morning at 7:00am Wicca's temp was 99.5. I will check it again in a few hours. Right now she is in her whelping box hording a cookie. We still have not seen her mucous plug however, that could have come at anytime and I just did not see it. Sometimes dogs can be very sneaky about these things.

Last night I had her in her box when I went to sleep when I woke up she was no where to be found. I thought to myself, "Oh great she has gone somewhere to have these puppies!" But as soon as I mentioned the C word she was front and center.

I was able to last night hear the puppies heartbeats, I heard what sounded like three or four heartbeats. I just wish it was all over and I knew my baby girl was okay.

Tuesday, December, 29, 2009 Day 56

Okay everyone!
Last night and this morning my Min Pin's temp was down around 98 and I figured, OKAY HERE WE GO. However, then when I took her temp again this afternoon and this evening it was right back up to her normal 100.2. She looks like she is about to explode if you get near her with sharp tools... LOL!

Well she is only 56 days into her pregnancy, this is her second litter. She delivered the first litter at 61 or 62 days and that litter had two pups that lived and one still born. I think this litter has about 4 pups. The only reason I say this is because she is so much bigger. I have made all prepreations I can at this moment. I just have to sit and wait. I feel like that woman from the TJ Maxx commercials of the 80 and 90s, staring in a window tapping the window saying "Open, Open, Open!"

Okay I have put up a few different blogs and no one has viewed my blogs I wonder is anyone ever going to read any of my Blogs? I really want some input...

What to expect when your Dam is Expecting!

A dog's gestation generally lasts anywhere between 57 and 65 days. This can be a very stressful time for Dam and Dam's mommy.

A dog that is in heat is also called a "Bitch", once a dog becomes pregnant they are called a Dam. If you are planning on bredding your precious "Babygirl", There are some things to consider, can you handle the stress and worry, have you thought about the possible loss of your dog.

Once you have decided to breed your dog and you have had a successful bredding that had a tying. Take your calendar and count out 57 to 65 days you will want to highlight these days and plan to take them off from work, (No one wants to come home to a litter of pups.) Though that is exciting a lot can go wrong when a Dam is left alone to whelp her pups.

Starting on day 56 you are going to want to start taking her temp. three times a day. A normal dag temp runs either 99, 100, 101, or 102. As soon as your Dam's temp stays down around 98 or 97 conseculsive for three takings, don't plan on going anywhere! When I get temps down around 98 I then start taking the temp every few hours. Once the drop in temp happens and she has lost her mucous plug birth is anywhere from 12 hours away to a few days. This time can be nerve racking. Make sure the car has plenty of fuel and the vet is notified just in case. During this time you will also, want to get together your Whelping Kit. This Kit should include: Gloves, Thermometer, K-Y Jelly, Towels (One for each pup you are expecting plus a few for surprise pups.), Thread, Scissors, Ribbon of different colors, a notebook and pen, Newspaper to line the bottom of the whelping box, a whelping box (for min pins I use a rubbermaid tub) a whelping box should have a door so mommy does not have to jump to get in and out however, if you are straped for cash a bin will work in a pinch, a flashlight in case power goes out, A heating pad or hotwater bottle to keep pups warm, and a pillow and blanket for you to camp out next to box.

Once you have all of these items together keep it all handy. When whelping pups it is good have someone near to help you out.
